Toner in Printing and Cosmetics
There are two meanings to the word “toner” in the fields of printing industry and cosmetics. In both fields, this word has a lot of importance as it is an important part of the end product. Toner is a powder used in the printing machines to print the materials. The skin toner in the world of cosmetics is a liquid used to apply mainly on face to shrink the pores and cleanse the skin.
In the early days, carbon powder was used to produce the printed text which was used in the printers. This carbon is replaced by toner in the modern setting, which give out clear and accurately finished printed products through the machines such as laser printers and photocopiers. This could change the color and appearance of a photographic print and can be used to develop a xerographic image by using colors available in the market. The popular ones are cyan, yellow and magenta.
Toner is manufactured from the compounded ingredients which is broken and then turned to fine powder by air-jet milling. The granules are formed from this process in different sizes and shapes. Some chemical processes involving molecular reagents can produce a finer print due to the identical sizes of the toner particles and used by certain companies due to marketing reasons and better performance.
It is interesting to note that the Ecofont software claims that the usage of this software in the printers can actually save up to 25% of the ink, which will in turn result in fewer costs and more environment-friendly solutions.
The application of the skin care toner on face and preferred parts of the body will help to reduce oil in the skin and prevent the surfacing of acne. The most common way of applying the toner is to dab it on the cotton and apply to the area. A few of them come in spray bottles as well. It is available in drug stores and grocery stores. One interesting fact is that the aftershave used by men is a kind of toner due to the high content of alcohol.
Though this product is considered as a cosmetic, some companies like Clinique sell it more for skin treatment than as a cosmetic. When it comes to the types of tonics, skin bracers and the fresheners are considered as the mildest form. Then, there are skin tonics with a small quantity of alcohol and astringents with a higher level of alcohol.
One has to be really careful while choosing or applying the product as it has to really suite with the skin and the needs of it. It’s not a necessity to use this product as the skin takes care of itself in the most normal circumstances and appears balanced and prepared in nine out of ten times. But if it is an absolute necessity to use one, starting with a gentle tonic will just do fine and then work your way up. Be it printing or cosmetics, the word bears the same spelling, but two different meanings when placed in the right context.
